The EABH is delighted to announce its 22nd Annual Conference in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in cooperation with ING:

Corporate Governance in Financial Institutions

Historical Developments and Current Problems

2011 Annual Conference

EABH 22nd Annual Conference

ING, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

20-21 May 2011

Governance of financial institutions is currently the topic of broad debate. The current international economic and financial crisis has uncovered the weaknesses of some governance systems, as well as implications for the real economy.

This event is intended to evoke discussion about the historical antecedents and evolution of the management, control, ownership and regulation in financial institutions. In particular, the conference will focus on:

(1)             Models of corporate governance

How have corporate governance models developed in history? Do other governance models prevail in the financial sector? Has a changing environment in relation to stakeholders, globalization, and business systems had an impact on the corporate governance of financial institutions, such as banks and insurance companies?

(2)             Governance mechanisms in financial institutions

Which mechanisms/factors have influenced the corporate governance of financial institutions, including ownership structures (role of families, shareholders, cooperative organizations, state banks etc.) and boards of directors? What are the key differences and similarities in corporate governance of different players in the financial sector?

(3)             Regulation and legislation of governance

How does government regulation relate to developments in the financial sector? What are the consequences, for example, of countries joining the EU, or the consequences of the current crisis? Does an economic or financial crisis have consequences for the corporate governance of a financial institution?

(4)             Archives and corporate governance

How can an archivist or document manager prepare for changes in corporate governance? Key words in this topic are controlling, evidence, legal, IT. What is displayed in the company archive? How does a company archive anticipate or play a part in new research topics?

Together with ING we trust this will be a stimulating and enlightening event and look very much forward to meeting you in Amsterdam!
